Steven N. Peskind, Esq., is the principle of the Peskind Law Firm (www.peskindlaw.com). Based in St. Charles, Illinois, the Peskind Law Firm limits its practice to matrimonial and family law matters, primarily in Kane and DuPage counties, but selectively in other parts of the state.
Mr. Peskind graduated from Tulane University and DePaul College of Law. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and is an elected member of the American Law Institute and the American Bar Foundation (ABA). He recently served on the Illinois Family Law Study Committee working to improve Illinois family laws.
Mr. Peskind is a faculty member of the Family Law Trial Advocacy Institute presented annually in Boulder, Colorado, by the ABA Family Law Section in conjunction with the National Institute of Trial Advocacy. In addition, he serves on the publication board of the ABA Family Law Section and the editorial board of the AAML Journal. Mr. Peskind speaks nationally on a variety of family law topics ranging from taxation to evidence.
In April 2013 he presented to the Missouri chapter of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers on trial evidence. In Spring 2012 in Miami he presented at the CLE Conference for the ABA Family Law Section on effective trial techniques. He also presented to Ohio magistrate judges on simplifying family law cases. In October 2011 he presented at the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers Columbus Day seminar in Chicago on the topic of authenticating digital evidence in family law cases. In 2010, he was the keynote speaker for the Oklahoma Bar Association Family Law Section annual meeting, and at a 2009 CLE Conference for the ABA Section of Family Law held in Montreal he spoke about the future of family law.
His book, The Family Law Trial Evidence Handbook, was published by the ABA in 2013. In addition to multiple bar journal articles, he has also published three law review articles. One article examined redefining parentage in the age of assisted reproductive technology and another explored the origin and utility of the best-interest standard in determining child custody. A law review article published in 2013 focused on hearsay in child-custody proceedings. In 2005 he was inducted into the legal writing honor society, Scribes.
Mr. Peskind has been recognized as one of the Best Lawyers in America. The Leading Lawyers Network has designated Mr. Peskind a Leading Lawyer since 2003 and Super Lawyers has recognized him as a Super Lawyer since 2008. In 2011, the Illinois Institute of Continuing Legal Education (IICLE) presented him with the Michael S. Cohen Award for Continuing Commitment and Contribution to Professional Education of Matrimonial Lawyers.
