Philips’ Healthcare Sponsors Book Launch in Boston
Philips Healthcare, makers of the Sonicare electric toothbrush, sponsored a book launch reception for the authors of A Patient’s Guide to Dental Implants. The reception, held in early March at the historic Hampshire House in Boston, followed a national conference of the Academy of Osseointegration. The authors are donating royalties to the academy. Shown here, left to right, are three of the authors, Drs. Edmond Bedrossian, Thomas Balshi, and Peter Wöhrle. The book will be available through bookstores later in the spring.
Authors Receive National Media Attention
Dr. Robert Maloney, co-author of LASIK—A Guide to Laser Vision Treatment, was featured in the recent ABC program Extreme Makeovers. Dr. Maloney performed laser eye surgery on one of the women who received a makeover, which also included cosmetic facial surgery.
Dr. Barry Cohen, author of Coronary Heart Disease—A Patient’s Guide to Treatment, was interviewed for the March 3, 2003 edition of Woman’s Day Magazine. A cardiologist, Dr. Cohen, spoke to the magazine about “medicated stents,” which are expected to be approved by the FDA later this year. The medication in the stents dramatically reduces the incidence of the stent becoming clogged. Dr. Cohen was a principle investigator of the new stents during clinical trials by Cordis Corporation, a division of Johnson and Johnson.
First for Woman magazine recommended The Stroke Recovery Book, by Dr. Kip Burkman, in its January 13, 2003 issue. In the article about women and stroke, Dr. Burkman, a rehabilitation physician, was quoted spoke about coping with the loss of speech after a stroke.
New Acquisition: Book on Pregnancy & Childbirth
Susan Warhus, M.D., is the author of Countdown to Baby—Answers to the 100 Most Asked Questions about Pregnancy and Childbirth, scheduled for a Fall 2003 release. Dr. Warhus is a board-certified OB/GYN physician who co-founded the most successful all-female practice in Phoenix, Arizona. During her clinical practice, she delivered more than 3,000 babies. Dr. Warhus in now a writer, speaker, and patient educator for women’s health issues.
