John P. Paone, Jr., a certified matrimonial law attorney. He is founder and managing partner of the law firm Paone, Zaleski, & Murphy, with offices in Red Bank and Woodbridge, New Jersey. He is a diplomate of the American College of Family Trial Lawyers, an organization composed of the top 100 divorce attorneys in the United States. Paone is also a fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and served as the president of the organization’s New Jersey Chapter from 2012–2013. He was among the first class of attorneys to be certified by the New Jersey Supreme Court as a “matrimonial law attorney.” He was the chair of the New Jersey State Bar Association, Family Law Section, from 1995–1996.
Paone is an editor emeritus of the New Jersey Family Lawyer and was president of the Middlesex County Bar Association from 2011–2012. He is a member of the Monmouth Bar Association Family Law Committee and served as its co-chair from 2018–2019. He has been appointed by the New Jersey Supreme Court to serve on several committees governing the practice of family law. He is certified by the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers as a family law arbitrator.
During his more than thirty years of practice, Paone has been involved in several high-profile matrimonial matters. He has represented government officials, sports stars, and celebrities in a variety of family law matters. Paone has received many accolades and awards throughout his career in law. More recently, Paone was selected by the rating service Best Lawyers® as the 2020 Family Law Lawyer of the Year for the New Jersey metropolitan area that includes Woodbridge and Red Bank.
Paone is a frequent lecturer of courses on continuing legal education and has published many articles about family law issues. He has been quoted in the New York Times and other major publications and has made television appearances on Court TV and other programs.
Mr. Paone was admitted to the bar in 1982. He earned a bachelor of arts degree with honors from Rutgers University and a juris doctor degree, conferred magna cum laude, from the American University, Washington College of Law, where he also was articles editor of the Law Review. In 1986, he established the Woodbridge and Red Bank law firm, now known as Paone Zaleski & Murphy, which specializes in divorce and family law matters.
